What Does a Science Lesson by a LEAH Mentor Look Like?
At the community partner sites, high school-aged LEAH mentors spend time with Boston Public elementary school students and teach them lessons in the science field. Through this exposure to sciences by older mentors, we hope to contribute to making STEM fields accessible to all.
Mentors teach through Quirkles, readings, and science experients. Quirkles is a book series designed to make difficult science concepts easier for children to understand. Along with the story in these books, mentors present their lessons with a science experiment in which the students can get involved. Science equipment can include plastic bottles, baking soda, vinegar, etc. and are fairly creative to play out!
